From the kindergarten play through the middle school’s ambitious spring musical (with over a hundred participants!), theater plays a central role in the life of Harding Academy.

Harding’s theatrical productions are a tremendous source of community pride as they leverage students’ gifts with those of teachers, staff, and even families in various off-stage capacities.
In much the same way that athletics grow character and leadership, drama provides substantial opportunities for leadership and growth. In addition to the cast, the stage managers, stage crew, and light and sound technicians are all students. Notably, many of Harding’s productions have also been choreographed by very talented eighth graders who conceive of the dances and then teach them to the cast.

Harding’s drama program goals are to teach the art and craft of theater while helping students develop poise, confidence, and strong presentation skills. Students who participate learn not only about theater but also gain “real world” experience that reveals just how important and rewarding collaboration can be.

Recent productions have included 42nd Street; Mary Poppins, The Lion King; Frozen; Moana ; and Newsies.
